Hometown Highlight: Hill Country Community Theatre
Celebrating the arts since 1985, the Hill Country Community Theatre has served the public as a showcase of the extraordinary local talent found in the Texas Hill Country. Performances are acclaimed for the professionalism of the sets, the costumes and, of course, the acting. And with a wide variety of performances each season ranging from comedy to drama, there is guaranteed to be something for everyone.
Located in Cottonwood Shores, Texas, the Hill Country Community Theatre is about more than just putting on a show though. In addition, the Hill Country Community Theatre has made it its mission to help enrich the lives of those in their area, not only through entertainment but teaching as well. Each summer, students ages 8-17 are invited to participate in the Youth Summer Theatre Program. This two-week program helps students develop their talent and interest in the theatre, while building their self-confidence, with the help of music and theatre staff.
Always in need of volunteers, the theatre offers a unique volunteer experience whether it be acting, serving as a greeter or helping with costumes and sets.
FCB Branch Manager Cody Petty is a regular participant in the arts and can often be found on the Hill Country Community Theatre stage.
“The Hill Country Community Theatre is about family,” Petty said. “Theatre is a place where people from all walks of life come together for a common goal - to entertain the community around us. The actors and volunteers devote their time, not only because it’s fun, but they develop relationships. They become a family and the whole point of this family is to put on the best show we possibly can to share a piece of ourselves with the community we love so much.”
The Hill Country Community Theatre will feature five productions during the 2017-2018 season including, “Senior Moments,” “A Don’t Hug Me Christmas Carol,” “39 Steps,” “The Red Velvet Cake War” and Rodgers and Hammerstein’s musical, “State Fair.”
