Hometown Highlight: Fredericksburg Music Academy

The hills are alive with the sound of music – in the Texas Hill Country! Since 2007, the Fredericksburg Music Academy (FMA) has enriched the lives of children in the local community through music. Offering free music education to students from kindergarten through fifth grade, the FMA is a program that helps children develop lifelong skills.

As part of FMA’s curriculum, students learn to sing in the Music Academy Choir, play bells, chimes, pre-band wind instruments and for a fee, may opt to take ukulele, guitar and violin lessons. To assist with ukulele and guitar lessons, both instruments are made available to rent for students taking the classes. For the past six years, FMA has partnered with the Hill Country Youth Orchestra program in Kerrville to help provide violin lessons to students in Fredericksburg. Students are also taught about music theory and have the option to take additional music lessons (for a fee).

The classes are offered each Thursday after school from 4 – 6:15 p.m. at the Fredericksburg United Methodist Church, located at 1800 N. Llano. For more information about the classes and to learn how to apply for the program, please call 830-997-7679.
