FirstCapital Bank of Texas announces Amarillo Market Expansion

Midland, Texas, June 7, 2012 – FirstCapital Bank of Texas, a wholly owned subsidiary of First Bancshares of Texas, Inc., a private company, today announced the appointments of Ted T. Awerkamp, Chris R. Koop, Kay Kuhn and Murielle Barnes, to newly created positions in its Amarillo market, according to Ken Burgess, Chairman.

Ted T. Awerkamp has been named Chief Operating Officer of the bank. Before joining FirstCapital, Awerkamp was President and CEO of Mercantile Bancorp, a multi-state, multi-bank holding company based in Quincy, Illinois, and prior to that served as CEO of community banks in that group, and brings over 30 years banking experience. He holds a Bachelor’s in Business/Finance from Western Illinois University, and is a graduate of the American Bankers Association Stonier Graduate School of Banking. He served on the ABA Community Bankers Council from 2006-2012. Mr. Awerkamp has served in numerous civic and charitable capacities over his career, and has agreed to serve as a Cabinet Member on the 2012 Campaign of the United Way of Amarillo & Canyon. Awerkamp will assist the company and bank in special projects, and oversee development of Mortgage and Deposit Development in the Amarillo market, and will report to bank Chairman Ken Burgess. Mr. Awerkamp and his wife Tena are parents of two grown children, and are relocating to Amarillo.

Chris R. Koop has been named an Executive Vice President of the bank. Before joining FirstCapital, Koop served as Director of Commercial Banking for central and west Texas and Market President of Citibank in Bryan-College Station, Texas and prior to that served at various executive levels at Citi, Happy State Bank and Bank of America in Amarillo and throughout Texas, and brings 30 years banking experience. He holds a Bachelor’s in Business/Finance from Texas Tech University. Mr. Koop has served in numerous civic and charitable capacities over his career including the Amarillo March of Dimes, United Way of Amarillo & Canyon, Amarillo Executive Club, Amarillo Fellowship of Christian Athletes, Backyard Mission of Canyon and the First Methodist Church of Canyon. Mr. Koop will focus on business development, business and commercial lending in the Amarillo region, and will report to Amarillo Market President J. Greg Burgess. Mr. Koop and his wife DeAnna are parents of four children, and are relocating to Amarillo.

Kay Kuhn has been named Vice President, Mortgage Manager in Amarillo. Ms. Kuhn has been a Mortgage Loan Originator and/or manager in Amarillo since 1975, most recently as Senior Vice President/Mortgage Loan Originator at Happy State Bank. Ms. Kuhn served as President and Director of the local chapter of National Association of Professional Mortgage Women and President of Women’s Banking Association. Additionally, she has served on an advisory committee and as an instructor for Amarillo College mortgage lending and real estate courses. Kuhn is a long-time associate member of the Texas Panhandle Builder’s Association and the Association of Realtors and as a committee member/chair for the American Heart Association Go Red for Women. Ms. Kuhn will assist the bank in development of a new Mortgage Department in the Amarillo market and serve as its Mortgage Originator, reporting to bank COO Ted Awerkamp. Kay and her husband Robert are the parents of two children and are residents of Amarillo.

Murielle Barnes has been named Vice President, Mortgage Underwriter in Amarillo. Barnes most recently served as Vice President of Lending at Texas Plains Federal Credit Union in Amarillo, and prior to that served at various levels for 18 years in the mortgage underwriting and processing business at banks and title insurance companies in the Amarillo market. She holds a Bachelor’s in Business Administration with Honors from Wayland Baptist University. Ms. Barnes is an active member of the National Association of Professional Mortgage Women serving two terms as National VP of the Central Region, past National Secretary and AVP/Secretary of the Central Region, and as past Local President. Ms. Barnes also currently serves as Vice Chairman and Finance Committee member of the Amarillo Hospital District Board. Barnes will assist the bank in development of a new Mortgage Department in the Amarillo market, and will report to bank COO Ted Awerkamp. Ms. Barnes and her husband Jimmy are parents of 2 children, and are residents of Amarillo.
